At Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital, we specialize in meeting the unique needs of children and families during medical emergencies. We are the region’s only 24/7 pediatric emergency room and have Fellowship-trained emergency medicine pediatricians on site at all times. 

Our award-winning emergency department is staffed with physicians with strong pediatric backgrounds. They have a passion for caring for babies, children, teens and young adults, and are dedicated to providing complete, coordinated care for your child in one location. We offer an excellent team of skilled pediatric physicians and a comprehensive range of specialists to provide your child with the highest level of urgent care. 

Your child is in good hands. Our team recognizes how stressful illness or injury can be – not only to your child, but also to your family. We provide Child Life Specialists to help guide you and your child through the entire duration of care at our hospital. Our Child Life Specialists—who are trained to help children understand their diagnosis, prepare them for procedures and talk to them in terms they can understand—are available 24-hours a day to answer any questions you might have.

Emergency Room Team at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital

Hitesh D. Chedda, MD received his medical degree at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he also completed his residency in pediatrics. Dr. Chedda is Board Certified in pediatrics and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Emily Grezaffi, MD received her medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She completed her internship and residency at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL. Dr. Grezaffi is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.

Rebecca Hook, MD received her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. She completed her residency at University of Tennessee-Memphis and her pediatric emergency medicine Fellowship at University of Texas-Southwestern. Dr. Hook is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Laura C. Kleinpeter, MD received her medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. She completed her internship and residency at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital. She is Board Certified in pediatrics and is a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Louisiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Louisiana State Medical Society.

Richard F. Lasseigne, Jr., MD earned his degree in medicine from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his residency training at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge, La. Dr. Lasseigne is Board Certified in general pediatrics.

Tara H. Ryan, MD received her medical degree from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. She completed her residency at University of Mississippi Medical Center. She is Board Certified in pediatrics, pediatric acute life support and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Ashley Saucier, MD is a pediatric emergency medicine physician. Dr. Saucier received her Doctor of Medicine degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, LA. She completed her pediatric residency and Fellowship training at the University of Tennessee LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. Dr. Saucier is Fellowship trained in pediatric emergency medicine and Board Certified in pediatrics.

Neel Shah, MD received his medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his residency at Children's Hospital in New Orleans, He is Board Certified in pediatrics and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Brian Stout, MD earned his medical degree from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and preformed his internship and residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland/Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. He did his Fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Stout is Board Certified in general pediatrics.

Christopher J. Woodward, MD is a pediatric emergency medicine physician. Dr. Woodward received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, MO. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center’s Earl K. Long hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. Dr. Woodward is Fellowship trained in pediatric emergency medicine from the University of Tennessee LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN., and Board Certified in emergency medicine.

 

Ensuring Your Child's Utmost Comfort

While in the Emergency Room waiting area at our hospital, your child may have access to medication to make him or her feel better while waiting to see a physician. You may discuss this option with your nurse upon arrival. The hospital also has a wide variety of toys and books available, including handheld electronic gaming systems and televisions.

Beyond the Pediatric Emergency Room

After receiving treatment in the emergency room, your child may be discharged to go home or, if needed, admitted to another area of the Children's Hospital.

  • Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is designed and staffed to care for the most critically ill children and to provide the region's most comprehensive pediatric services. The 20-bed unit serves patients from Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
  • Pediatric Unit: The pediatric unit is a 95-bed unit where children with both medical and surgical diagnoses are admitted and receive care. Services are provided for pediatric neurology, pediatric cardiology and hematology/oncology patients, including long-term acute care for chronic illnesses.
