Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital Transport Team
As the scope of services required for a children's hospital has grown, a pediatric transport team was established in May 2012 to serve children across the state and southeast region.
About Our Team
The Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital Transport Team is quick to mobilize and uses specialized equipment originally designed for the army to serve as a lifeline for children needing critical care services not available in their own communities. Team members wear specialized flight suits to distinguish themselves and to enhance safety and quality of patient care.
What We Do
The Transport Team brings children from referring facilities to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital for a higher level of care for emergencies such as trauma care, surgery, seizures, respiratory distress, poisoning, drowning, appendicitis, cardiomyopathy, renal failure and more.
The team is available 24/7 and consists of more than 20 specialty trained pediatric intensive care nurses and respiratory therapists directed by our in-house pediatric critical care physicians. The team can carry patients via helicopter, ambulance or fixed wing aircraft.
Upon arrival at the referring hospital, patients are stabilized and readied for transport. Our team has telemedicine capabilities that allows for treatment to begin immediately by Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital physicians. Upon arrival at our hospital, patients are immediately brought to the Emergency Department, where treatment continues.
