The OLOL pediatric clerkship directors, Dr. Roberta Vicari and Dr. Jay Gardner, have specially designed each clerkship so that students will receive teaching from our residents and staff in both the hard facts of pediatrics and the development of clinical and critical thinking skills.
Melissa Roy, MD, Director of Undergraduate Medical Education, Pediatrics received her medical degree and completed her pediatric residency at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Roy is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in general pediatrics.
Roberta Vicari, M.D., received her doctoral degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Prior to joining the residency program, she served as Medical Director for the Pediatric Department and Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital. She currently serves on several community boards and is very active in the Baton Rouge community. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at Earl K. Long Hospital and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Vicari is an Associate Director for the Pediatric Residency Program and the OLOL Director for Medical Student Clerkships through the Tulane School of Medicine.
Jay Gardner, M.D., earned his degree in medicine from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, where he also completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics. Dr. Gardner did his fellowship training in Endocrinology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics. Dr. Gardner serves as the Rotation Director for the Pediatric Endocrinology rotation. He is also the OLOL Director for Medical Student Clerkships through the Louisiana State University School of Medicine.
