A letter from the swimmer, Tim Root:
My name is Tim Root, and this November, I will attempt to swim over 25 miles across Lake Pontchartrain. Why am I personally taking on this challenge that will no doubt be extremely difficult? Because I want to help children who often are faced with challenging circumstances at a hospital that has become very special to me, Our Lady of the Lake (OLOL) Children’s Hospital.
OLOL Children’s Hospital is the fastest growing children’s hospital in Louisiana, with more than 60 pediatric specialists treating nearly 82,000 patients in 2012. The Children’s Hospital treats all children in need, regardless of ability to pay. And that’s significant because 70% of the children they see are on Medicaid or have no insurance.
Many lives have been saved in the dedicated 24/7 pediatric emergency room, pediatric cancer wing, and the region’s largest pediatric intensive care unit. Please join me in this effort to help save even more. A child you love may need this very care one day.
This swim will not be easy and I am asking for your encouragement and support. While any donation is appreciated, special sponsor levels will receive special benefits:
